Howard's attention has, unfortunately, shifted away from the kitten entirely, so he doesn't notice the paw waving. Instead he finds the pile of clothes.
The signs of barely-contained panic are all over him as he goes through the clothes and then rushes through each room of the house, looking for Cedric and calling his name, punctuated with "it's not funny anymore"'s and frenetic pacing.
Cedric wouldn't just disappear, would he? Not like the FAYZ. People don't just disappear here, not on this world, right?
He goes back to the kitchen and throws open the address book, and calls each of Cedric's teammates asking if they know where he is, and trying to play it casual. And then sits on the ground, rocking himself slightly, trying to think of a scenario where Cedric didn't come home with a kitten and just vanish halfway through making a new litter box.
"You wouldn't happen to be a tracking kitten, would you?" he jokes to the cat. Weakly.
